Avoid the 4-6 hour sales presentation. It was not a pleasant experience. Ruined the day. The food at this resort (8+ restaurants) was very well prepared. Expensive but good. Service varied because at busy times not enough staff. Tip is always included in bill. Keep receipts to check against your final bill. Error occur. Get the VIP card to save money. It is not necessary to attend the sales presentation to get a discount card. Make sure they know your a Registry member for extra benefits.

This is a 'time share' property and it feels that way from start to finish. At check in they make sure you attend a 'free breakfast with a short presentation so you can get 50% of your resort fees applied to your bill. Ours were $420 per unit and we had three rooms. It was a hard sale presentation and were trying to convert us from our current fractional ownership in Pinehurst. I had to say no four or five times and then they sent us to another group that kept selling. It was very distasteful. Their check in and check out process was horrible - It took me close to 4 hours to actually get the credit they promised. Another FYI our final bill after check out and all discounts for 10 people for five days was over $7500. One other thing, The property is so big (over 2000 acres) you almost had to stay on property for all dining shopping, nighttime activities and they had a 'Disneyland' type of tram system to get you around the resort

Excellent accommodations, delicious food, great beaches, lots to do on-site but still close enough to venture out on tours. Definitely would recommend for rest and relaxation!
REVIEW C. | 02/21/2018 9:48am
As resorts go this is AVERAGE by no means as special as they portray. This is the second Grand Mayan we have been unsatisfied with to the point of leaving early. Food was average and very over priced. The facility was jammed with people to the point that you could not find a seat at any pool. The reason you had to use the pools is the beach is terrible! Would only stay here again is there was no choice. Honestly, an all exclusive is becoming cheaper. I never thought I would say that but next time we will be doing just that.
REVIEW C. | 02/21/2018 9:47am
Keys did not work for first two days. Could never find an available chair at any pool; all had towels on them as early as 7:30 Am! Found the living room furniture very uncomfortable to sit on. On a positive note, we loved the golf course! Property has become much too large for my taste. We liked it much better before all the new buildings were added. We won't be returning.
REVIEW C. | 02/13/2018 4:29pm
Grand Mayan is too big. Didn't expect to be shuttled around from our building to get our car or for that fact to have lunch or dinner. If you didn't want to wait for the shuttle you had to do a lot of walking to get where you wanted to go. That was confusing also when you did walk someplace you got lost 2 or 3 times.
REVIEW C. | 01/19/2018 4:04pm
We were booked into a Grand Mayan one bed with full kitchen. At bookin we were offered an ‘upgrade’ to a studio with a small lounge and microwave fridge. Upgrade also came with more pool areas etc. When we arrived at the room, it was on the ground floor with tall vegetation up close making the rooms very dark and depressing. The microwave fridge and small sink in a wardrobe size cabinet. More than sufficient for our needs. However no plates or other utensils were provided. Coffee makers and cups saucers only. It took several attempts to get the basic items needed. The staff statedi the room only came with a microwave!! What use was that I asked... the blank looks said it all. Definitely won’t change from the GM allocation on our return.

Only info sent prior to holiday was from Registry Collection. After a very long day of travel (2 flights London-Atlanta-Cancun) we had to wait 30 minutes for the shuttle bus. When we arrived, our luggage was taken for delivery to our suite. We were dropped off to check in but couldn’t see where the lobby was in the dark & got lost. After a while we found the reception & checked in but were immediately accosted by someone to book us for a timeshare presentation a few days later. This was at 23.00! We were given vague directions to our suite but got lost again on the meandering boardwalk paths. Eventually found our apt after asking several people. We fell asleep waiting for our bags which eventually arrived at 01.00. The suite seemed much smalller than I was expecting & we only found out a day later that the master suite had been sealed off. By then we had unloaded all our luggage so stayed the fortnight in what turned out to be the 2nd bedroom. They very much need to sort out new arrivals as the system of paths throughout the resort was not well signed & was very confusing in the dark when we were exhausted. I was also unhappy that we had to find out that we were not in the accommodation booked. The rest of our stay there was wonderful & the staff very friendly & helpful. It more than made up for our initial impression. 2 minor points were that there was no kitchen sink plug & the shower plug in the 2nd bedroom was largely blocked & took ages to drain.

The Property is Beautiful, Neat, and Clean with Terrific Service. The only issue we experienced (which is hardly worth mentioning) is the utensils in the kitchenette were old and some unusable. There we no sharp knives and no workable frying pan. BUT, we were not there to cook so we got by.
REVIEW C. | 04/19/2017 9:31am
The resort was beautiful and very well maintained, and the resort staff were very helpful and friendly. The various restaurant choices allowed our family to choose what worked well for us; and we thought the prices of food and other things we purchased at the resort store were very reasonable. The large pool (and additional pools) provided hours of fun for our kids (ages 6, 11, 14). We were glad to be in one of the Lago buildings (rather than the Jungle buildings), because it was a pleasant 5-minute walk to the main areas. Just a few things that we were a little less satisfied with: the rooms were well kept, but a bit outdated--some of the furniture and accessories were coming apart in places; we needed to get to the main entrance for a couple outings, and because the resort is large, it is necessary to take a shuttle (or two)--and it was difficult to figure out the shuttle paths and schedules; we had heard ahead of time that the resort has people who REALLY try to get you to attend their time-share presentation--and we were glad that we were prepared for that, so that we could say no right away and then unplug our room phones for the week. Overall, a great place to stay with our family, and so we would definitely go back.

The resort is beautiful and offers very good dining options, sparkling pools and pristine beaches. Our family loved this resort and all it's amenities.
REVIEW C. | 11/02/2016 2:43pm
The marketing presentations went on for over six hours. We were told that it would be less than two hours and that they only wanted to explain changes that they were making to their program. It was like giving up one of our seven days at the resort.
REVIEW C. | 10/12/2016 1:10pm
The property is amazing, the employees were great, but the rooms are dated and the beds are very uncomfortable. We both left with back pain. Also, immediately after check in the time share con began with a threat of a $75.00 charge on our bill which could be removed if we came and met with them the next day. We never met with them and no charge was on our bill, so as we suspected, it was a con. In addition to this rotten beginning to our vacation, a time share employee called our room three times with more lies, even after I told her to stop calling. It's out of control and needs to be controlled.
REVIEW C. | 09/07/2016 10:31am
The Grand Mayan Vidanta was fantastic! It was a luxury experience, perfectly suited to our family needs. The only problem we had was arranging for transport from CUN to the resort. This was difficult to coordinate, requiring multiple phone calls (all over Mexico), and unclear rules on timing. The excursions to off-site features were OK, but very expensive and crowded. Renting our own van to the Chichen Itza site was much better (but a long round trip). The resort was stunning! Great staff and food. Our only complaint was the condition of the sea beach....lots of limestone gravel rather than sand. Otherwise, a super time!!!!

Lovely resort. Surprisingly excellent restaurants. Grounds are massive but beautifully maintained.
REVIEW C. | 03/21/2016 10:15am
Even thought we are owners at this resort, when we checked in, we found out that, since we'd booked through the Registry Collection, we weren't allowed our normal privileges. REALLY bad start to our vacation. Also, the resort is very hard to get around, and has a tram system as a result that takes you from place to place. However, that means that you have to wait for it.
REVIEW C. | 01/06/2016 11:21am
During check-in process, we got a hard to attend their timeshare presentation even before they would give us our keys. I kept telling them we did not want to attend a presentation, please give us the keys, and they just kept pushing and pushing. This puts a bad mouth for the week. They even called two days later pretending to see if our fridge, and then tried to get us to go again.

We have been to the Grand Mayan several years. This was our first stay at the Grand Luxxe (we upgraded in 2014). Super! The grounds with the walk-ways are an experience. Service was great throughout the resort - Pools, restaurants, rooms. Do not miss the show at Voya' - fantastic! The meal with the show was world class. Hasta Luego!
REVIEW C. | 08/19/2015 10:26am
Excellent experience, the worst part was getting form the airport to the hotel on their free service. We had to wait 1 2 hour for the shuttle then another 1 2 hour in the van waiting for other guests to arrive...a total of 1 hour after arrival , this was very aggravating after a 5hour flight. Everything else was outstanding. We didn't like our initial room so they changed it the next day for the EXACT room that we wanted. We have been to this property many times and the recent upgrades are phenomenal although not as good as their other property in Nuevo Vallarta.
REVIEW C. | 05/07/2015 1:42pm
Due to the size of the property there was an inordinate amount of time spent moving about the property and less time to enjoy. Property is about 45 mins from downtown Cancun. Be careful with hotel sponsored excursions - more time spent traveling than visiting.
REVIEW C. | 04/29/2015 5:31pm
Everything in the resort was very nice but the sales presentation was completely unnecessary and gimmicky. I wish we never participated in it.
REVIEW C. | 04/08/2015 1:11pm
Our room was very musty and smelled moldy and like there had been a bug bomb put in it that morning before we entered. We could not hardly run the air conditioner without an bad odor coming from it!
REVIEW C. | 02/10/2015 2:36pm
maybe return…property is great…gym, pools etc. the rooms are run down at this point and need updating. They smell of mildew for the last three visits we have made.
REVIEW C. | 01/05/2015 4:23pm
Rooms needed updating, any our room had a terrible smell. Once they sprayed the ceiling area and give us a hudimifier, it was better. Problem: who wants to hear a loud humidifier 24 7 and keep emptying water from it on their vacay? Not us. Loved the property, even bought the Private Residence 'Grand Lux Loft pkg. already made reservation to return next Ooct. Member services was great!
REVIEW C. | 01/05/2015 3:59pm
The Time Share Presentation they bully you into is horrific. You feel like your in a prison trying to escape. Tell our members they can refuse to go
REVIEW C. | 12/01/2014 4:12pm
The resort is absolutely beautiful and we really enjoyed our visit. We re looking forward to returning. This has nothing to do with the resort but a warning about car rental from the Cancun airport to those who might be thinking about it, I am sure, would be greatly appreciated. We online rented a mid-size car from Thrifty for $12 dollars a day and $88 total coverage insurance. When we got there they wanted an additional $55 per day total coverage insurance and a $3,000 deposit.
| 10/15/2014 2:37pm
It took over 2 hours to check in. They were more concerned about selling a timeshare, they did not even tell us where our room was. We were not aware that we could not use all pools. The servers were all very kind and polite but the rest of the staff were terrible.
| 10/15/2014 2:37pm
The property and pool area is wonderful and the staff very kind. However, it has seen its best times and heavy refurbishment and construction was on. The onsite pricing is very high and this is why we did not use it. You will be ost without a rental car. Driving is fine.

We do not recommend this property to anyone. We had multiple issues with shuttle services on the property, spa issues, and check out issues. Had to prove we received internet for free because we are Registry Collection members and fight for the 10% off the entire bill instead of just 10% off drinks . If I had not found the piece of paper that stated 10% off meals, drinks, etc... we would have not received it. Maids did not do dishes and we had to call for turn down service every night
| 07/09/2014 1:03pm
This resort is wonderful! Great pools, rooms, food, activities and people. It has it all. We had a great time!
| 07/09/2014 1:02pm
The staff at Registry Collection (RC) were amazing. Our flights were cancelled and our vacation was signaificantly shortened. The RC staff provided us with the opportunity to shift our vacation by one week thus proving us with a full week of vacation. The resort did not send us an email in advance. After we contacted the resort, they sent us the relevant information about the resort. In comparison to all RC we have visited this resort is at the bottom of our list.

We felt the resort, amenities and service staff were exceptional, efficient and courteous. We definitely plan on returning to the Grand Mayan Riviera Mayan.
| 07/09/2014 1:01pm
We were first put into one of the least desirable rooms they claimed that they were completely full but after insisting that they look further ( we have been to thus property multiple times) they somehow miraculously found a premium room . This took up a day of our vacation as we had to change rooms on the 2nd day. The tv had to be replaced and it took 3 days to get hot water in the kitchen and unclog the sink , they have a ton of new construction and are very very intent on selling those .

Charged for daily wi fi (separate fee per device!) and charge to clean the few dirty dishes we generated. pretty low class.
Paul & Laurie E. | 03/16/2014 2:32pm
We just got back from 2 weeks at the Grand Mayan, Riviera Maya. We had a wonderful time and were impressed by the improvements since we were there 6 years ago. The new pools for the Grand Mayan are spectacular. We especially liked the "hidden" pools with filtered shade and lots of vegetation. Some things we found out while there are that Registry Collection members get free internet and accommodation in Building 1 which is the best building because it is right beside the pool and lobby and therefore very convenient. They don't tell you about this so you have to ask or you won't get it.

The Grand Mayan is heaven on earth. We enjoyed most of the restaurants and the food was amazing. You can enjoy the numerous pools, golf, beach, wonderful live shows and relax as much as you would like. It is our home away from home. Thank you. Jerry A.
Glen S. | 03/01/2013 10:18pm
The Grand Mayan was the most romantic and relaxing vacation. The food options seem endless. The quality amazing. You can do nothing or do everything - The choice is yours - Every day! Can't wait to go back.

We were at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya in October and love it more than ever. It has been about four years and we had to rediscover the resort. It has changed so much with the growth of the jungle and upgrades. We won't wait so long to return. It is fabulous. Everyone of the staff went beyond what we expected. Thank you. Lois A.
