The property is really dated. The unit was spacious and had plenty of room to move around. The lighting was terrible - dark, especially in the kitchen. We had to buy two under counter lights for the kitchen just to be able to see to cook! That was the worst of it. But overall, the unit was really dark. The manager, Rowan, went out of her way to help us when we asked for it. She could not have been nicer. But she has limited ability to change things like lighting. Everything was closed as it was off-season, even the hot tub for most of our stay. And it's a good 30 minutes from any grocery store of any size, but the Gourmet Market, which was closest, is a terrific store. And a very nice hardware store as well. If all you are doing is skiing, it might be just fine. We weren't skiing (and it wasn't open yet anyway). We wouldn't go there again for a number of reasons but it was OK. I would say not really Registry quality, compared to other places we've stayed

If you are looking for a resort-style Rocky Mountain vacation without all of the touristy places of a Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail or Aspen, then I think you will like it here. I'm from Colorado, and these are the most breathtaking mountains, especially north of Purgatory Resort. We very much enjoyed our stay in late July. Unlike other well-known Colorado resorts, Purgatory Resort is a place to relax without hundreds of shops and restaurant bars.. These were just families like us who wanted to get away. Kids (11 and 7) were thrilled seeing black bears wander through the resort and enjoyed the rides in the summer. We stayed in unit 508 and is on the top (5th floor) with restricted access and a small lounge for the eight units on the floor. There is a concierge there from from 8 to 4. 4 br & 31 2 ba condo extremely roomy and has nice view facing courtyard with ~8 shops and activities for children (trampoline bungee jump, zip line, panning for minerals shells, et cetera). Rooms were cleaned every afternoon. You have a narrow parking for 2 cars below the condo. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Pretty sure that structure is concrete, so we heard no sound from adjoining units. Kitchen did not have enough lighting, Would have liked to use the 5th floor hot tub, but that was restricted to actual owners - Registry Collection visitors were not given code. Condo was cleaned adequately each day, but not as thoroughly as other places.

The room was not made up upon arrival. Geoff and a pal made it up as quickly as possible. Only reason given was that they were overwhelmed By checkins.

I had a medical problem while I was there and I have never been treated so carefully. All of those around me were genuinely concerned about me. They all went above and beyond. I felt like I was a special family member to everyone concerned. I totally felt comfortable while they were caring for me and felt secure with their decision that I needed an ambulance. When I returned after being cared for. I felt like I must be a queen, or Princess. Everybody ask about me, checked on me, greeted me wholeheartedly when they saw me. It was not a situation I would care to go through again. However, with that staff at hand, would never be concerned about my care at all.

Purgatory has pros and cons.......Beautiful views, nice pool area. Lodging was a little dated...stained carpets, stains on lamp shades. Had a good amount of activities. Some stores and restaurants close early and open late in the morning. We were there first part of August....right when the monsoon season started. It rained every afternoon. Did not ruin our trip however, I would not go again at that time. If you like adventure the side by sides are a must!!!!! The trip to Ouray is AMAZING!!!!!! Also, visited the Four Corners and Mesa Verde....very cool and worth while trips!!!! All and all this was one of my families favorite trips. Purgatory could just use a little update. Staff there was very accommodating.

Stayed in the resort in Sept 2014. It is a convenient location for hikers and travelers - just of the main road to a lot of sightseeing - Mesa Verde, Million Dollar Hway, and 30 mins from the nearest town with the famous Durango-Sliverton steam-train. However, the resort was more of a ghost town - no activities, no functioning pool, or sauna, it was hard to get someone to clean the room or fix a TV. Our suite was huge but needed some TLC. Overall, the place served its purpose - there is a kitchen, a balcony, very spacious. But for the resort to really deserve to be on the Registry Collections it needs to be more organized and cleaner.

In the survey you will note 'did not use' checked a lot. The resort amenities were closed during our stay. This was not told to us in advance of booking with The Registry Collection or the resort. We basically had a very nice room in a resort with no activities. The stores, restaurant and all activities were unavailable to us. I blame the Registry Collection and The Purgatory Resort for not making this clear in their preview of the resort. This resort closes down the first weeks in November

After three calls to the property no one could tell me what Registry guests were entitled to. I spoke to Registry several times, and they just said call them if I had a problem at check- in. Registry did tell me that Registry guests get better rooms but we had the lowest level with view of snowbank and bldg. Carpets were very dirty, stained with bleach. Fireplace didn' work properly, a few other things. Could be very nice residence with some tlc. Staff very friendly, helpful.

Would probably have really loved this place if it hadn't been for the noise. The resort uses a loud speaker that blasts sounds of various birds squawking, to try to keep the swallows from nesting. The problem is, the speaker points directly to all the 2 bedroom units in the building, and starts early in the morning and goes on into the evening hours. Plus, the published hours for the pool and spa are not enforced, so the units that look out over the pool are subject to loud people at all hours. Finally, the 2 bedroom units look over some equipment attached to the clubhouse, and it runs continuously. Because the units do not have air conditioning, it is necessary to keep the windows open in the summer...and thus, hear all the noise. Had we not had a 2 bedroom unit, we would have been in a different location, and would have enjoyed our stay much more (or, if we'd visited in winter, when we didn't have to leave the windows open). That being said, the resort is very nice, the clubhouse (with continental breakfast included) is amazing, and the service was excellent. It was just too bad the noise caused us to leave with a less than stellar impression.
